Larry Eugene Davis, Sr., age 71, of Lexington, North Carolina, passed away Sunday, November 21, 2021 at Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston- Salem, North Carolina.
Funeral service will be Tuesday, November 30, 2021 at 4:00pm at Files Chapel Baptist Church with family visitation at 3:00pm. Burial will be Wednesday at Salisbury National Cemetery at 2:00pm. Public viewing will be Monday, November 29, 2021 from 1-6pm at Roberts Funeral Service.
Larry was born May 27, 1950 in Davidson County, North Carolina. He was the son of Jacob Dewitt and Rose Mae Hamilton Davis. Larry was a faithful member of Ezekiel A M E Zion Church. He was a graduate of Central Davidson High School and attended Davidson County Community College. He joined the United States Marine Corp and served in the Republic of Vietnam and received an honorable discharge. He was a member of Banks Miller Post 255. He was the first African American to work in the ABC Store in Lexington and retired from Binnings Window and Door Company. He enjoyed playing pool and spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He loved going out to eat and good food.
He is survived by his wife, Gloria Ann Carter Davis of Lexington, NC; three children: Anita Vern Carter of Lexington, Charles Carter, Sr. (Katrina) of Lexington, NC and Larry E. Davis, Jr. (Sherri) of Claxton, GA; twelve grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; his mother-in-law, Tommie Lee Carter of Lexington; four siblings: Thomas Dewitt Davis of Lexington, NC, Bruce Davis of Lexington, NC, Sabina Davis Cade of Lexington, NC and Jameshia Gilmore of Lexington, NC; a cousin raised in the home like a brother, Adolph Hayden; six sisters-in-law: Anita Hargrave (Joe), Shirleen Carter, Allison Vinson of Lexington, NC, Regina Broadway (Steve Gaddy), Karen Hargrave and Saundra Craven (Fredrick); five brothers-in-law: Joseph Mack, Roland Carter, Alexander Carter (Georgia), Clarence Hargrave and William Carter; a niece who was like a daughter, Kyuanna Foxx; two devoted cousins, Sadie Rivers and Brandt Peoples; devoted friends: "The Crew," Daniel Vaughn, Oliver Bailey, Howard Davis, Ted Coleman and Leon Hogan and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other friends.
He was preceded in death by one son, Anthony "Tony" Arnett; his parents, Jacob Dewitt Davis and Rosa Mae Davis and four siblings: Margaret J. Mack, Fannie D. Marshall, Carlton Davis and Jackson Davis, Sr.
