Obituary

Larry Dean Tate was born on October 30, 1955 to the late George Eugene and Minnie Lee Williams Tate in Thomasville, NC. He transitioned to his heavenly home on Sunday, October 29, 2023 at Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist High Point Medical Center just 6 hours before his 68th birthday.


Larry Dean attended and graduated from Thomasville Senior High School in 1973. He was an exceptional athlete of multiple sports, which led him to become a passionate coach for youth. He briefly attended Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, VA. He returned home, started working at Jack Cartwright, Inc. and Masonite in Thomasville, NC. Over the course of his life, Larry Dean worked well with his hands. He built and painted houses and enjoyed gardening. He coached little league and pony league baseball and assisted with coaching little league football. He played baseball with the Young Truckers Baseball Team and wore the #9. He was a huge NC Tarheels, LA Lakers, Pittsburgh Steelers and Atlanta Braves fan. Larry Dean even went to a few games with his friend, the late Keith (Peanut) Williams. Larry Dean was passionate about his music and was a very well-known local DJ. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Melvin "Peter" Lee Tate and Kenneth "Kilgo" Tate and his nephew, Eric Tate, all of Thomasville, NC.


Left to cherish fond memories is his Special Lady that he loved for 50 years, Ms. Barbara Jean Peake of Thomasville, NC; one son, Derrick "Duck" Little of Thomasville, NC.; two daughters, LaShekia Peake-Caldwell (Lamont) of Thomasville, NC and Nafeesah Tate of Thomasville, NC; four grandsons: Nydrique Barnes, Nasir Barnes, Cooper Bryant and Tristyn Crook all of Thomasville, NC; three granddaughters: Asuntia Burns of Georgia, Infiniti "Cornbread" Caldwell & Montajah "Ma Ma" Caldwell both of Thomasville, NC; a great granddaughter, Promise Clark; two, brothers, Edward (Emma) Tate and Bernard (Rhonda), both of Thomasville, NC; five sisters-in-law: Rita Tate, Mary Ann Tate, Ruth Taylor, Bernice Peake and Deloise Weldon, all of Thomasville, NC; five brothes-in-law: William (Valder) Peake, Steven Peake of NY, Roy (Kitty) Peake, Stanley Peake, James (Stacy) Jackson, all of Thomasville, NC; and a host of nieces, nephews, uncles, cousins and other family and friends. His favorite nephew, Quintin Tate, kept him well-groomed. He is also survived by honorary nieces, Tiesha Jackson, Brittany Spann and Gracelyn Brooks and an honorary nephew Kaiden Griffin.
