Mr. Lawrence J. Smith, 87, of Beethoven Ave., died Sunday, April 14, 2019.

Funeral service will be Tuesday at 1:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church, Village Dr. with family visitation at 12:30 p.m. Burial will be Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. at Salisbury National Cemetery with full military honors.

He was born January 29, 1932 to Clerie Brown Sims, Sr. and Ruth Elizabeth Smith Sims in Forsyth County. He formerly worked at Howard-Robinson Funeral Home and Gilmore Funeral Home and retired from Young and Hinkle Furniture . He was a member of First Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers: Charles Sims, Cleo Sims, Sr., and Clerie Brown Sims, Jr.; three sisters: Mary S. McMattan, Lorraine S. Lowe and Mildred A. Wilson and a daughter, Cynthia Fowler.

He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Blondia Watson Smith of the home; four sons: Reginald Jackson and Lawrence (Beverly) Smith, Jr. of Winston Salem, Charles B. Watson and Van Fowler both of Lexington; three daughters: Cheryl Smith, Gale (Hubert) Culberath and Jacqueline Shannon; a brother, George Earl Sims, Sr. and a host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
