Lemart Thomas, Jr. known to many as "Pookie" of Winston Salem, NC departed his life on Friday, April 15, 2022. He was born October 11, 1956, to the late Lemart Thomas, Sr. and Doris Hines Thomas in Winston Salem, NC.

Lemart received his formal education in the Winston Salem Forsyth County public school system. He was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan and enjoyed spending time with his family, grilling and watching football.

He devoted many years of work at Sara Lee. He spent the latter years of his work career with the Winston Salem Housing Authority where he retired after 10 years of employment as a Maintenance Technician.


Lemart was preceded in death by his parents, Doris and Lemart Thomas, Sr.; son, Lemart Thomas III; three brothers, Lavonza Hines, Joseph Hines, Sr., Nathaniel Thomas; a sister, Margaret Hines; a nephew, Joseph Hines, Jr. and devoted friend, Kedra Wagner.

Lemart leaves to cherish his memory, three children, Brandon (Latretta) Thomas, Alexander Thomas, and Felicia Thomas; a godson, Tyreese Wagner; two grandchildren, Rayshawn Williams and Jenella Williams; two sisters, Brenda Thomas, Elizabeth (Walter) Wolak; sister-in-law, Lillie Hines; five nieces, Chevelle, Shauna, Antinett, Chalita, and Trina (Melvin) Baldwin; six nephews, Xavier, Bobby (Tiffany) Thomas, Ray Jr., Michael, Derrele (Asia) Mitchell, Tray; and a very special friend Flora Ann Danenberg. Lemart was deeply loved and leaves behind a host of cousins and an abundance of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 P.M. Saturday, April 23, 2022 at Roberts Funeral Service Chapel with family visitation at 11:30 A.M. prior to the service. Public viewing will be held Friday, April 22, 2022 from 1:00 P.M. - 5:00 P.M. Inurnment will be conducted 2:30 P.M. Friday, June 17, 2022 at Evergreen Cemetery. In every effort to protect our client families, sanitizing, facial coverings and or masks are required for the service.
