Mr. Lewis Peebles passed away at Mountain Valley Hospice in Yadkinville, NC on July 22, 2023. Lewis was born in Davie County on September 15, 1949 to the late James M. Peebles, Sr. and Geneva Hoover Peebles. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Franklin and William Peebles and a sister, Mary Peebles Peoples.

Lewis attended Davie County Public Schools and joined Mt. Sinai AME Zion Church. He worked for Burlington Mills as well as Glosson Motor Line of Lexington. He worked and retired from the NCDOT of Lexington after 35 years of service. He was a member of the DC Cruisers Car Club.

Lewis leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife of 25 years, Audrey Gilmore Peebles; a daughter, Latesa (Bobby) Barrett; a stepdaughter, DeNee (James) Hairston; a son, Marcus G. Peebles; a brother, James (Mazola) Peebles; a sister, Christine (Franklin) Cowan; four sisters-in-law: Jameshia Gilmore, Jackie (Lee Roy) Gilmore-Davis, Robin Douglas and Roxie McGuire; a brother-in-law, Victor Gilmore and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

The homegoing service will be Saturday at 1:00pm at Mt. Sinai AME Zion Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
