Obituary

Linda Kay Fisher died on Tuesday, October 14, 2024 at the Hinkle Hospice House in Lexington, NC. Born on December 19, 1941 in Chicago, IL. She was the daughter of the late Lois I. (Netzley) and Ernest M. Shull. Linda spent her formative years in India where she attended the Woodstock School, an international boarding school. In 1960 she returned to the United States to pursue higher education at Manchester College in North Manchester, IN, where she earned her Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology, Physical Education and Health. She later obtained her Master of Arts in Education from Ball State University in Muncie, IN.

It was at Manchester College that Linda met her husband, Michael E. Fisher. Together they built a beautiful life, raising three children: Debbie L. Davis of Lexington, NC, David N. Fisher of Oviedo, FL, and Douglas E. Fisher of Land O' Lakes, FL.

Linda's passion for teaching led her to a career in education. She taught Physical Education and Health at Hamilton, North Miami Consolidation, and Manchester College, and Biology at Richmond High School. She also taught Physical Education at Liberty Elementary School. Later, she transitioned to social work, serving at the Union County Family and Children's Services where she worked for 22 years before retiring.

In addition to her professional accomplishments, Linda was a creative spirit. She choreographed local school musicals and wrote lyrics for several of her husband's musical compositions. After their full retirement, Linda and Michael relocated to Lexington, NC to be closer to their daughter and her family. They spent their winters in Lake Mary, FL at their home in an adult community known as "The Forest," near their two sons.

Linda and Michael were members of Lexington First United Methodist Church. She is survived by her devoted husband, Michael E. Fisher; her children: Debbie L. Davis, David N. Fisher and Douglas E. Fisher; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

An informal service will be held for family and friends in the coming days to honor her life and memory with more detail in the coming days.
