A Life Well Lived

Luther Green Brock, Jr. was born April 1, 1952 to Luther G. Brock, Sr. and Ruth Elizabeth Brock in Davie County, NC. His family later moved to Winston-Salem, NC where he initially attended Carver School. He then attended North Forsyth High School where he excelled in sports. His performance on the football field earned him the nickname, "Breakaway Brock".

After graduating from high school, Luther Jr. attended Winston-Salem State University and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Health and Physical Education. During his time at WSSU, he became a member of Groove Phi Groove Social Fellowship, Inc. and was active in membership for many years during and after graduation. At WSSU, he met the love of his life, Rhonda Kaye Brown whom shortly after graduation, he married on August 30, 1975. Luther Jr was a devoted husband to Rhonda and father to their only child, Luther G. Brock, III. He was an active father who enjoyed working in the yard, completing do-it yourself home improvement projects, and spending time with the family.

He participated in many activities focused on the development of youth. Shorty after graduation, he served as the Boys Club Athletic Director. He was then employed by the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County School System as faculty and summer teacher at various schools including Hill High School, Carver High School, and North Forsyth High School. He served as In-School Suspension Coordinator, coach, and classroom teacher until his retirement. He coached football and basketball teams while his son was a child. At Union Chapel Baptist Church he enjoyed singing with the Mass and Men's Choirs and was often the featured lead. Participation with The Laymen's League, the Couples Sunday School Class and Health and Human Services Committee were also among his church activities.

Luther Jr.'s earthly life ended on February 9, 2025. He is preceded in death by his father Luther Sr., his mother Ruth Brock; brother, James Brock, Sr., and nephews: Montego King and Reggie Brock.
