Mrs. Marie Verdell Smith, 85, of Zane PerkinsDr.,passed on Sunday, July 12, 2020.

A graveside service will be Friday at 11:00am at Forest Hill Memorial Park.Public viewing will be Thursday from 1-5pm at Roberts Funeral Service.

Girlie, as she was affectionately called, was the daughter of the late Jasper Verdell and Gladys Holt Henderson. She was born August 26, 1934 in Lexington, NC.She was a member of New Zion Baptist Church and was a former member of Oak Grove Baptist Church in China Grove under the leadership of her late husband, Rev. James I. Smith.

She leaves to cherish her memory two sons, Charles (Lisa) Smith and James Q. Smith; a daughter, Deborah Hoover; four grandchildren and seven great grandchildren; two sisters, Louise Lopp and Annie (Robert) Ealyand a host of other relatives and friends.
