Marquita LaRose Huff-Smallwood, 43, a loving mother, grandmother and wife transitioned from this earthly journey on Wednesday, March 4, 2020. Marquita was born August 19, 1976 to the late Deborah Viola Mobley and Sylvester Huff in Newark, New Jersey.She is also the sister of the late Isaac Huff.
Marquita spent her early years in Newark.There she graduated from West Side High School in 1994.After her marriage to Derrick Smallwood and the birth of their 3rd child, the family uprooted and moved to Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
She attended The University of Phoenix, receiving a bachelor's dgree in Human Services. She was a CNA at both Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center and Novant Health Forsyth Medical Center.She also worked as a private home health aide and for Monarch as an employment support professional and program manager for her department.
Marquita married her husband, Derrick Smallwood on April 22, 1999.The Lord blessed them with four children: Aaron, Chevonne, Derrick, Jr., and Nathaniel.The children's sister Jul was also treated as one of their own.
Marquita always emphasized the importance of family, being there for one another and treating others the way you'd want to be treated.Marquita was loving, selfless, and devoted to her family, always putting others first.She enjoyed singing, road trips and spending time with her family.
Cherishing her memory are her husband, four children and four grandchildren: Serenity, Jeremiah, Jayden and Bryson who loved her dearly; aunts, uncles, cousins and a host of family and friends.
A Service of Love and Remembrance will be conducted at 12 noon, Saturday, March 14, 2020 from the chapel of Roberts Funeral Service of Winston-Salem.
