Obituary

Marty William Berry, 48, of Old Pasture Rd, Linwood, died Monday, November 20, 2023, at Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center. Marty was born in Rowan County to the late James (Ken) Berry and the late Marlene (Mammy) Berry on January 4, 1975.

He was the husband of Lisa Brown Berry. They married in April 1997 and were inseparable. Marty proudly served as a police officer, a detective, then later a corporal and field training officer. He served proudly for thirteen years, and continued to embody what it means to be a police officer after he medically retired. Marty was a devoted family man, and he took the extra time to care for his mother, Mammy, and his children. He loved his family deeply and committed to being the best husband and father he could be.

Marty was known for his quick wit and priceless sense of humor. He could make anyone laugh and left everyone in stitches with his often edgy, but well-intentioned jokes. If there was a stressful situation, we could count on him for comic relief. The amount of happiness he brought to a room cannot be understated.

Marty leaves behind his wife of 26 years, Lisa Brown Berry; a son, Everette "Rette" James Berry; two daughters, Sophia "Sophie" Berry and Kennedy Faithe Berry; three sisters: Tracy Neely, Brooke Berry and Tammy Graley and many other family and friends.

A memorial service, officiated by his father-in-love, Don Brown and brother-in-love, Wesley Brown will be held Saturday at Lighthouse Baptist Church at 4:00pm, with family visitation at 3:00pm.
