Obituary

Marvin Lee Dalton, affectionately known as "Starving Marvin," of Eden, North Carolina, peacefully departed this life on Wednesday, November 12, 2025 at Ancora Compassionate Care in Reidsville, NC.

Marvin was born on July 16, 1949 in Pittsylvania County, Virginia to the late James Scales and Vester Mae Dalton. He was educated in the Rockingham County Public School System and grew up with a strong foundation of faith and family.

Marvin accepted Christ at an early age and was a devoted member of St. Mariah United Holy Church, where he faithfully served as an usher and lifted his voice in praise as a member of the male choir. On September 14, 1997, Marvin united in holy matrimony with Brenda Neal Dalton, and to this blessed union, one son was born.

A man of great skill and diligence, Marvin worked for many years at Clarence Hales Motor Sales and later at Sam W. Smith, Inc., where he eventually retired. He was a proud member of the Road Soldiers Chapter of Danville, VA.
Marvin was known throughout his community as a hard-working, kind-hearted man who could fix anything that needed mending. His gift with automobiles was second to none, and he found joy in helping others through his handiwork. When he wasn't under the hood of a car, Marvin could be found riding his motorcycle, tending to someone's yard or spending time with his beloved dog, Boss. Truly, Marvin was a man blessed with many talents, and he used them well.

He was preceded in death by his brothers Bethel Clyde Scales and Raymond Scales, and sisters Margie Scales Bethel and Nancy Scales Murphy.

Marvin's legacy of love and faith will continue through his devoted wife Brenda Dalton of the home; his children: Marcellus Shamaine Murphy (Tori) and Timothy Dalton, both of Eden, NC, Shamell Davis-Barnette (Michael) of Reidsville, NC, Marvin Jarvis Dalton and Shane Reaco Dalton (DiNesha), both of Sandy Level, VA; his cherished sister Ava Stokes of Martinsville, VA; 17 grandchildren - Ny'Terious Dalton, Jadea Rucker, Jakeel Dalton, Faith Davis, LaKwes Dalton, Mason Dalton, Caden Dalton, Marley Dalton, Serenity Dalton, Shamar Murphy, Shaundrei Murphy, Harmony Dalton, Christopher Dalton, Isaiah Barnette, Kendel Dalton, Dallas Dalton, and Destyni Dalton; and 5 great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins and two special friends, Robert Earl Williams and Preston Clark.

Marvin's faith carried him through life's journey, and now he has received his eternal reward. Though his earthly work is done, his spirit lives on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.

"Well done, good and faithful servant... enter thou into the joy of thy Lord."
- Matthew 25:23
