Obituary

God looked around his garden and He found an empty place. He then looked down upon this earth and saw your weary face. He put his arms around you and lifted you to rest. God's garden must be beautiful, He always takes the best… And on Thursday, January 6, 2022, in His infinite wisdom, God called from labor to reward Mary Lou Wilkerson Broadway to her Heavenly Home. Mary was the daughter of George A. Wilkerson, Sr. and Tillie L. Alexander Wilkerson, born January 17, 1942 in Rowan County, North Carolina.

She was educated in the Rowan County Schools and graduated from Aggery High School, Landis, North Carolina. She worked at Shuford School, Holiday Inn, Follestts Firehouse, Tracks End Railroad Restaurant and Henry James Restaurant.

Her family meant the world to her. She enjoyed the many shared holidays. In her leisure time, she loved cooking and spending time with family and friends. She was always willing to lend a helping hand to her fellowman.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ernest Broadway, Sr.; two children, Delois Ann Wilkerson and Stephen Broadway; two siblings, Maxine W. Holmes and George "June" Wilkerson, Jr. and longtime friend, Ruby Parker.

Mary was loved and will be remembered with adoration by her daughter, Ernestine "Tina" Broadway of Greensboro; five sons: Scotty Wilkerson of China Grove, NC, Michael Broadway, Freddie Broadway and Ernest Broadway, Jr., all of Kernersville, NC and Bilaali Broadway of Dubai; step-daughter, Sheryl Kerns of Granite Quarry, NC; foster daughter, Alfreda (Chris) Thompson of Concord, NC; siblings: Leon Wilkerson, Libby (Prince) Clinton, Martha (Charles) Carr, Kent (Mary) Wilkerson, Dennis (Brenda) Wilkerson and Ronald (Clarissa) Wilkerson; 27 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-love, Willis Charleston and Elzonra Charleston; three brothers-in-love: Quentin Holmes, Steve Broadway and William H. Broadway; three goddaughters: Dedra Elizbaeth Parks, Lori Johnson and Ashleigh Day; three special friends: Patricia Mciver, Hazel Weisner and Anita Fields and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other friends.
