Mrs. Mary K. Hairston. 81, the sixth of eleven children, was born March 6, 1943 in Chesterfield County, South Carolina to the late Willie B. King and Lastee K. King. Mary transitioned from labor to reward on March 18, 2024 at Davidson Health and Rehabilitation Center, Lexington, North Carolina.
Mary graduated from Pine Forest High School, McBee, South Carolina and relocated to Manhattan, New York. She pursued a career in banking and later a career in nursing. She later moved to Lexington, NC and was employed as a certified nursing assistant at Lexington Memorial Hospital, where she was employed until retirement.
Some of her hobbies included traveling, fishing, gardening, baking and collecting angel figurines. She was an active member of the Southside Senior Citizens Club. She was a dedicated and active member of the Buncombe Baptist Church where she served as President of the Deaconess Ministry, an active member of the Missionary Ministry, Divine Décor Ministry and BBC Mass choir. She was a former member of the culinary ministry and Davidson County Chapter of Hairston Clan.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, William "Jimmy" Hairston; her son, Anthony L. McIntyre, Sr.; six brothers: Andrew King, Levorn King, Wallace L. King, Harold King, Jerel King and Jackie King.
Left to cherish fond memories are three grandsons whom she loved so much: Anthony McIntyre, Jr. of Greensboro, NC, Christopher R. McInyre of the home and Hunter M. McIntyre of Greensboro, NC; daughter-in-law, Lisa McIntyre; two great-grandchildren, Mackenzie Baker and Phoenix McIntyre; four sisters: Doris Vasser of Nyack, NY, Minnie Hough of McBee, SC, Ellaree Whitaker of Bronx, NY and Iva (James Edward) Hairston of Linwood, NC; a sister-in-law, Martha King; an uncle, Clyde King, Sr. of Lexington, NC; two aunts, Clara King of Patterson, NJ and Ophelia King of McBee, SC and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Funeral service will be Monday at Buncombe Baptist Church at 1:00pm with family visitation at 12:30pm. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
