Mary Magdalene Melinda Foster Williams, age 85, entered Eternal rest Thursday, June 24, 2021 while a patient at Novant Health Forsyth Medical Center, Winston-Salem, North Carolina. "Babylinda," as she was affectionately known, was born January 1, 1936 in Davie County, North Carolina in the Fairfield community.She was the daughter of the late Rufus and Eula VanEaton Foster. We give thanks to Our Almighty Lord and Savior for sharing His beloved daughter with us.We are forever grateful for our family, community and friends who have shown their love and compassion to help make her transition a little more comforting.
She was educated in the public schools of Davie County.While in high school, she was a cheerleader, yearbook staff member, a member of the debate team and a member of the Crown and Sector Club. Mary was a nursing assistant employed at Autumn Care Nursing Home, Mocksville, North Carolina where she also served as a dietician for three years. While at Autumn Care Nursing Home, Mary was recognized as Employee of the Year in 1996.Babylinda served with compassion until she retired with over 37 years of dedicated service.
Her first Christian experience was with Fairfield Missionary Baptist Church, Mocksville, North Carolina where she was a faithful member until her health declined.She served on the usher board, nursing board, missionary board and pastor's aide. She had a special passion for the church Rainbow Tea and The Twelve Tribes fundraiser. She loved people and was active in her church and community.In the community, Mary was a member of the NAACP and held the honor of 1975 NAACP Mother-of-the- Year.You could always find her attending workshops at the Senior Center, tending to her garden or canning something that would tickle anyone's taste buds.She believed in doing Missionary work, especially visiting the sick and shut-in.
She was married to the love of her life, Charlie T. Williams, who preceded her in death.In addition to her husband and parents, her children, Bishop Tony D.G. Williams and Fredia W. Chambers and tensiblings welcomed her to a place where every day is like Sunday.
Mary was loved dearly and will be sadly missed by her children: M. Craig (Cheryl) Williams of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, Deitra P.C. (Quinton) Floyd of Harvest, Alabama and Timmy Williams of Mocksville; a son-in-law, Steve Chambers of Atlanta, Georgia; a niece, reared in the home and loved as a sister, Virginia Hampton of Walkertown, North Carolina; four grandchildren: Amie Durham, Anthony Williams, Joshua Chambers and Shauntes Williams; nine great-grandchildren: Steven, Cameron, Caleb, Soul, Phoenix, Joshua Jr., Phoebe, Kylie and Jada; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends in the community.
The funeral service will be at 2:00 pm on Saturday at Fairfield Missionary Baptist Church, Mocksville, NC with family visitation at 1:00pm. Public viewing will be Friday from 1:00 pm to 6:00 pm at Roberts Chapel, Mocksville.
