Mary Helen (Lynn) Gaither Newsome was born in Mocksville, North Carolina on February 9, 1951 and was the third child to the union of Edmonia Holman and the late Robert Gaither, Jr. She entered Eternal rest Thursday, November 14, 2024 while a patient at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center, Fayetteville, North Carolina.

Lynn, as she was affectionately known, was also preceded in death by a brother, Robert G. 'Bobby' Gaither and her stepfather, Robert 'Bob' Hollis.

She was educated in the Davie County, North Carolina, Queens County, New York and the Los Angeles County, California public school systems prior to moving to New Jersey. She was last employed with Coty Cosmetics as a Quality Control Assembly Technician.

Mary was an ordained Minister. She loved people and was involved in church and community during her adult life while living in East Orange and Newark, New Jersey, Fayetteville and Spring Lake, North Carolina.

She is survived by her mother, Edmonia Holman Gaither Hollis of Mocksville North Carolina; her son, Stephan Lee Newsome of Newark, New Jersey; a grandson, Ajai Newsome of Newark, New Jersey; two sisters, S. Louise Gaither of Mocksville, North Carolina and Stella L. Hollis of Memphis, Tennessee; a brother, James E. (Victoria) Hollis of Taipei, Taiwan; two aunts, Nellie R. Holman Ramsue of Salisbury, North Carolina and Betty Hollis of Memphis, Tennessee; a sister-in-law, Vikki Showe-Gaither of Gardena, California; three nieces; one great niece; one great-grand niece; three nephews; one great nephew; best friend, Angela Graham Robinson of Mocksville, North Carolina; a goddaughter, Shamis Bush of Sanford, North Carolina; and a number of cousins, other relatives and friends.

Homegoing services will be held at 12:30 P.M., Friday, December 6, 2024 at Roberts Funeral Service Chapel (Mocksville) with visitation at 1:00 P.M. prior to service. Interment will immediately follow the service at the Palmetto Church Cemetery, Mocksville, North Carolina.
