IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Mary
Ricks
October 27, 1945 – August 16, 2024
Mary Magdalene "Maggie" Tyson Wall Ricks, 78, of Lexington, was called to her heavenly home by our Lord Jesus Christ on August 16, 2024. Born on October 27, 1945 in Anson County, North Carolina, she was the youngest of seven daughters born to John Tyson and Easter Forte Tyson.
Maggie attended Parsons Grove and Henry Grove Schools in Lilesville, NC, and was a member of Parsons Grove Church, where she accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior during her teenage years. As she matured, her love for the Lord deepened and she remained a devout Christian throughout her life. Her faith was evident in her daily life, especially as a beloved member of Files Chapel Baptist Church where she was deeply rooted in the Word and committed to spreading kindness and love to all.
In her young adult years, Maggie worked as a housekeeper in Lilesville, NC. In the mid-1970's, she moved to Lexington, NC and began working at Dixie Furniture to provide a stable life for her young children. She worked in various roles within the finishing room and remained employed there for over 25 years. After retiring from Dixie Linwood, Maggie continued to work as a custodian at South West Elementary for a brief period. During her time there, she formed special connections with the children, who often expressed their appreciation through drawings and notes that she cherished.
Mary Magdalene took great joy in cooking for family and friends, often inviting them to share in her home-cooked meals. She believed her cooking came from the heart and always prayed with gratitude before each meal, thanking Jesus for all her blessings. Her love for the Lord and her generous spirit were a constant source of inspiration to those around her.
Maggie was preceded in death by her parents; her daughter with Robert Lindsey, Corlis Amelia Tyson; and five of her sisters: Alice Mae Tyson Maxwell, Elizabeth Grace Tyson Merritt, Minnie Viola Tyson Montgomery, Pauline Tyson and Netter Ruth Tyson Kendall.
She leaves to cherish her memory her children from her first marriage to John Lester Wall: a special stepdaughter, Lytinia Denise Wall Fullen (William); her baby girl, Mary Frances Tyson Wall Thorne (James); and twin sons, Leslie Lee Wall and Lester Junior Wall, both of the home. Maggie is also survived by her sister, Easter Georgianna Tyson Allen; 12 grandchildren: Marquee Wall, Shenna White, Gary Wayne Thorne, Alexa Thorne (Zac), Antonyo White, Ameka Kindle, Zachary Wall, Mya Wall, Colin Thorne, William Fullen, Jr., Leslie Wall, Jr. and Elijah Enochs; ten great-grandchildren: Antonio Platt, Lylah Campbell, Amari Wright, Nina Thorne, Deaunte White, Nautica Patton, China Bennett, Zah'mere Wall, Ziyah Wall and Zander Bryson; and a great-great-grandchild, Deshaun White. She also leaves behind two special nephews, John Henry Tyson and Willie James Harris who were like brothers to her; her surviving former spouse, Dana Ricks and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who will dearly miss her.
The funeral service will be held on Thursday at 11:30 am at Files Chapel Baptist Church, with family visitation beginning at 11:00 am. Burial will follow at Westview Memorial Park in Wadesboro, NC. Public viewing will be Wednesday from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm at Roberts Funeral Service, Lexington.
Mary Magdalene will be remembered for her unwavering faith, her loving spirit and the deep care she showed to all who knew her. She will be deeply missed and forever cherished.
