On Thursday, September 7, 2023, Maxine Owens Wagner quietly left on her well-planned journey to her new home in glory. She was welcomed home by Jesus, the center of her joy, and all of her family and friends who were awaiting her arrival. In sweet peace, she departed this life of 86 years at Atrium Wake Forest Hospital, High Point, North Carolina after a long battle with kidney cancer. Her final moments were spent peacefully surrounded by her family,
Maxine was born to the late Roy and Coretta Simms Owens on September 19, 1936 in Davidson County, North Carolina. She received her formal education from the Lexington City School System and graduated from Dunbar High School. Known for her love of the Lord and passion for helping others, Maxine will be dearly missed by all who knew her. Maxine's family asks that she be remembered for the joy she brought to others in life, not the sadness of her passing.
She was joined in Holy Matrimony to the late Horace Lee Wagner, who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Renee Wagner and two siblings, Ulysses Owens and Elizabeth Owens.
Left to treasure her memory are her children: Byron Wagner of Greensboro, NC, Horace Wagner of Lexington, NC, Chris Wagner of Clearwater Fl, and Donna Wagner Aparicio of Durham, NC; eight grandchildren: Brannon Wagner, Brandi Wagner, Dyron Conner, Dr. Steve Brown, Trivia Wagner, Cameron Crump Talisha Wagner, and Neriah Wagner. One great grandchild, Carter Wagner.
Funeral services will be conducted at 12:00 PM, Tuesday, September 12, 2023 at First Baptist Church with a visitation at 11:00 AM prior to the hour of service. Interment will follow at Forest Hills Memorial Park at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, September 13, 2023. Public viewing will be Monday, September 11, 2023 from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM at the funeral home.
