And thus saith the Lord our dear Melvin Mock was called to his Eternal home early Friday morning, September 2, 2022 while a patient at Kate B. Reynolds House, Winston-Salem, North Carolina. We give thanksgiving to our Lord and Savior for allowing us to share his life for so many years.
Born July 14, 1939 in Davie County, North Carolina, he was the son of the late Melvin Crump and Edith Mock Smoot and John Smoot. He was educated in the Davie County public schools. He began a career with Joseph Land, Lexington, North Carolina as a truck driver.
Melvin was a faithful member of Third Wind Ministries, Mocksville, North Carolina. Watching his Carolina Panthers and Charlotte Hornets was a favorite pastime, along with watching westerns, going to the drag races and working in the yard.
In addition to his parents, a granddaughter, Niesa Mock; siblings: Billy Smoot, Richard Mock and Johnnie Mae Dunn preceded him in death.
Those who survive and will forever cherish his memory are his wife, Elizabeth Chunn Mock of Mocksville, North Carolina; two sons, Dexter Mock and Derrick (Abony) Mock, Sr. both of Mocksville, North Carolina; seven grandchildren: Christopher (Keisha) Mock, Anitra Mock, Markita (James) Mock, Aisha Mock, Derrick Mock, Jr., Micah Mock and Damarian Mock; six great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
The Homegoing service celebrating his life will be conducted 12:00 PM Sunday, September 11, 2022 at Roberts Chapel, 953 Salisbury Road, Mocksville, North Carolina 27028 with moments of sharing at 11:30 AM prior to the hour of service. His mortal frame will find sweet rest in the tranquility of New Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery. Facial coverings and/or masks are required for the services.
