Mr. Nathaniel "Chilly" Lanier, 65, passed into eternity on Monday morning, January 19, 2015.
The funeral service will be Saturday, January 24th at Noon at First Baptist Church on Village Dr. Burial will follow at Mt. Sinai AME Zion Church cemetery, Peoples Creek Rd., Advance, NC.
He was born on October 1, 1949 in Davidson County to Fred Herman Lanier and Virginia Rose Jones Lanier. Chilly attended Dunbar High School with the class of 1969. He was a lifelong member of Ezekiel AME Zion Church and was a member of AME Zion Men's Booster Club. After 30 years of service, he retired from the City of Lexington Sanitation Department. After retirement, he worked for Lexington State Bank (Newbridge Bank) and was a beloved bus driver for the Lexington City School System and J. Smith Young YMCA until his health declined. He was also a former member of the Lexington Senior High Band Boosters and a member of the Boys Club, where he helped mentor young African American men.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Kirby Lanier and a sister, Pansy Rose Lanier.
He leaves to cherish his memory his twin daughters, Kelley (Jerry) Ellis of Salisbury and Kasey (Antonio) Wilkie of Welcome; three grandchildren, Emanuel, Elise Ellis and Ahmad Wilkie; two brothers, James (Debra) and Kenneth (Michelle); special cousins, Dalton and Jones and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
