Nora Jean Crump Hairston departed this life at the age of 89, on Monday, August 15, 2022 at Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center.

She was born March 6, 1933 in Lexington, NC to the late Damon and Lula Mason Crump.

Deaconess Nora Jean was a faithful member of Buncombe Baptist Church and pilar in the community, delivering flowers for over a decade with her own florist shop, Hairston's Florist. Prior to opening her own shop, she was employed at New Dixie Furniture and Tracks Inn.

Nora was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Deacon James Hairston; her sons, Alonzo and Michael Hairston; her brother, Tommy Crump and sister, Joan Rogers.

She is survived by her children: Franklin (Jeanette) Hairston, Willie Jean Hairston Bush, James Eddie Hairston, Barry Hairston, Ever Hairston, Brenda Hairston and Darrell (Kim) Hairston; a foster son, Antonio Gamble; 12 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren; two sisters, Christine Peebles and Annie Lee Arnette; three brothers: Willie Crump, Louis Crump and Calvin Crump; two sisters-in-law, Naomi Sims and Betty Lue Burke and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.

The Celebration of Life Service will be Saturday at 2:00 PM at Buncombe Baptist Church with family visitation at 1:30 PM. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Public viewing will be Friday at Roberts Funeral Service from 1:00 PM - 6:00 PM.
