On Tuesday, September 10, 2024 our beloved Onelle Brown Lewis passed away at the Lexington Health Care Center, Lexington, North Carolina. The daughter of the late Clarence Odell Brown, Sr., and Johncie Mason Brown, Onelle was born in Davie County, North Carolina on July 11, 1951. We, her family, will truly miss the jewel of our hearts.
Onelle graduated with the class of 1970 from Davie County High School. After graduation, she moved to Long Island, New York and worked at Suffolk Development Center for 15 years. She later attended a local technical college to become a Licensed Practical Nurse and worked for the United Cerebral Palsy Group Home for 2 years. Onelle decided to move back to Mocksville and pursed a career at the VA Hospital in Salisbury, North Carolina as a medication nurse for 15 years.
Onelle enjoyed studying the Bible and joined the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses in 1971. She found pleasure in reading, doing crossword puzzles, tending to her garden, shopping and finding treasures at the flea markets.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, William Lewis; a daughter, Danetta R. Lewis; six brothers and two sisters.
Onelle will be remembered and cherished by two daughters: Theresa (James) Sands Shepherd of Mocksville and Shena Johncie Lewis of Charlotte, North Carolina; three grandchildren: Cameron Sands, Sr., and Christian Shepherd Sands, both of Mocksville, North Carolina and Imani Lewis of Charlotte, North Carolina; two great-grandchildren, David Sands and Cameron Sands, Jr.; three sisters: Wanda Brown of Mocksville, North Carolina, Angela (Tonie) Webb of Waxhaw, North Carolina and Brenda McDonald of Long Island, New York; two best friends from childhood, Millie Fulton and Maggie Feamster.
Onelle's presence sparked joy and she was loved by countless members of family and friends who enriched her life. Those not mentioned know the relationship they shared with Onelle and her family appreciates and acknowledges those relationships with grateful hearts.
A memorial service will be conducted 3:00 PM, Saturday, September 21, 2024 at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, Mocksville, NC.
