Obituary

Mrs. Pauline G. Hargrave, 86, of Lexington, passed away Saturday, July 31st at her residence. Pauline was born February 28, 1935 to Jeff and Sadie Gooden. Pauline enjoyed her work with Costner's Jewelry Store, selling (and modeling!) jewelry, and later devoted her life to caring for and teaching children for the Lexington City Schools System from which she retired. Pauline was a dedicated member of Union Baptist Church where she was President of the Senior Choir for many years. She was past President of the Music Committee, member of the Mass Choir, Senior Ministry and the Women's Ministry. Pauline was also a very active member of our community.She was a past President of the Southside Seniors, a Ladies of the '90's member, a member of Circle La'Fete Club, a faithful member of Neighborhood Watch and she delivered Meals on Wheels until her health declined.

Mrs. Pauline was preceded in death by her husband, William T. "Bill" Hargrave; brother, Robert Gooden; sisters, Helen Nichols and Annie Mae McCoy; brothers-in-law, Robert Brown and Len Shaw and son-in-law, Kirby Vinson.Pauline is survived by her children: William T. Hargrave, Jr. (Peggy), Sadie H. Vinson and Wendell T. Hargrave (Marty); step-daughter, Brenda Hargrave; sisters, Earnestine Brown and Inez Shaw; 6 grandchildren: Alina V. Henderson (Ruben), Kirby Vinson, Jr. (Christina), Tasha N. Melton, Morgan Hargrave, Deandrella Yokley (Wallace), and Anthony Miller (Heidi) and a host of great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Due to Covid-19, there will be a private service at the Roberts Funeral Services Chapel on Thursday with the Rev. Darrell Thomas officiating. The service will be streamed for those who wish to view from home and a celebration of Pauline's life through music will be held at Union Baptist Church at a later date. Public viewing will be Wednesday from 1:00pm-6:00pm at Roberts Funeral Service.

The family wishes to express their appreciation to the cardiac care team of Wake Forest Baptist Health in High Point and Winston-Salem, the caring staff of Abbott's Creek Center and to the many dear friends for their cards, calls, visits and prayers.
