Obituary

I have fought a good fight. I have finished my course. I have kept the faith. Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing. II Timothy 4:7-8

Mother Phyllis Ann Bowman Bohannon answered God's call and went from labor to reward on Saturday, September 7, 2024. Her dear loved ones were at her bedside. Through her illness, Mother Phyllis had an abiding faith and love for her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Born May 22, 1951 in Rowan County, North Carolina, she was the proud daughter of the late Joseph "Joe" Bowman and Willie Jean Mayfield Bowman. She received her early education in the Davie County public schools where she graduated from Davie County High School, Mocksville, North Carolina in 1969. Phyllis was employed with Lexington Furniture Company until her retirement.

Mother Phyllis loved the Lord and was a faithful and lifetime member of Mt. Zion Community Church, Mocksville, North Carolina where she was the Church Mother, served on the Church Trustee Board and Missionary Board. She enjoyed reading, sewing and puzzle books. Most of all she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.

Mother Phyllis and John W. Bohannon were married for 50 years. To this union they had three wonderful children: Melissa, LaWanda and John II.

She leaves to cherish her memory a loving and devoted husband, John W. Bohannon; two daughters, Melissa Roshell Bohannon and LaWanda Tamu Bohannon; a son, John W. (LaToya) Bohannon II; eight grandchildren: Nicholas M. Bohannon, McKayla D. (fiancé Clarence Gore III), Alexis S. Bohannon, Madison A. Bohannon, Noah M. Bohannon, Kitana J. Bohannon, Khia R. Bohannon and King W. Bohannon; a great-grandchild, Isabella S. Bohannon; two sisters-in-law, Betty B. Blackwell and Earlene Bohannon; a special cousin, Deborah Jean Gallmon; two special friends, Cassandra Mason and Darlene Easter; special adopted sister, Apostle Nettye Ijames-Barber; a host of other relatives, dear friends and countless individuals whose lives she touched along the way.

Mother Phyllis's beautiful smile, her countenance and her faithfulness will be remembered by all who knew her.

The service of Triumphant Celebration will be conducted 2:00 PM Saturday, September 14, 2024 at Mt. Zion Community Church with public viewing at 1:30 PM prior to the hour of service. Interment will follow at Bethany A.M.E. Zion Church Cemetery.
