Apr 27, 1950 — May 5, 2026
Dr. Raynorda Faye Brown, 76, passed away on May 5, 2026 following a prolonged illness. She was born on April 27, 1950 in Lexington, North Carolina to Thomas Frank Brown and Mary Elizabeth Brown.
She completed her undergraduate studies at Bennett College, where she became a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated and later graduated from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. She began her medical career in Cleveland, Ohio at Rainbows (Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital), where she entered pediatric practice.
She later joined the Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center School of Medicine in New Orleans, where she completed subspecialty training in pediatric gastroenterology and devoted her career to that field. She was long affiliated with Children’s Hospital of New Orleans and served on the faculty of LSU’s Department of Pediatrics, contributing to both clinical care and medical education.
Dr. Brown was remembered for her strong sense of purpose and conviction. She knew what she believed and stood firmly in it. She cared for her patients as though they were her own family, and she approached her work with diligence and consistency, reflecting a standard of excellence that was characteristic of her family.
She also had a distinct personal style and a natural flair for fashion. Her scrubs, accessories and even her stethoscopes were often coordinated, reflecting a polished and intentional presentation even during long hospital rounds. She was often seen in pearl earrings and a matching necklace, and was known for thoughtfully purchasing items in multiples to share with loved ones.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas Frank Brown and Mary Elizabeth Brown.
She is survived by her siblings, Rhonda Kaye Brown Brock and Reginald Thomas Brown (Rhonda E.); her nephews, Luther G. Brock III (LaMesha) and Thomas Christopher Brown; her niece, Morgan Elizabeth Brown; her great-nephews, Luther IV and Christian Brock; her great-nieces: Destini Seaford, Shamyah and MaeKayla (Brock); her aunt, Gail Winton; and a host of cousins and extended family members.
