Obituary

Robert Lee Dalton, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend to his church and community, came to the end of his life-journey on Saturday evening, September 10, 2022 at Season Hospice and Palliative in Cumming, Georgia with his loving family around him. His family and friends will remember his quiet demeanor and his willingness to lend a helping hand to his fellowman.

Sunny, as he was affectionately known, was born August 25, 1939 in Iredell County, North Carolina and was the son of the late Barney Lee and Effie Mae Dalton.

After graduating from Unity High School in Statesville, North Carolina, Robert enlisted in the military and served his country gallantly in the United States Army. Prior to retirement, he was employed with International Paper in Statesville, North Carolina for over 25 years. Robert was a faithful member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Hamptonville, North Carolina and served on the Usher Board, as a Sunday School teacher and as the Sunday School Superintendent until his health began to decline. In his pastime, Robert could often be seen gardening, landscaping, working around his church, volunteering at various churches in the area, taking care of his community and watching sports on television. You would find him smiling as he watched his grandchildren play various sports.

In addition to his parents, Robert was preceded in death by his wife, Doretha Stevenson Dalton and his sister, Alvis Louise Redman.

Robert and Doretha were a devoted couple who celebrated thirty-three years of marriage before her passing on August 28, 1998. They were the proud parents of two daughters, Sheila and Andrea.

A life well lived and loved will be remembered, revered and remain in the hearts of his daughters, Sheila (Tony Sharpe) Dalton of Statesville, North Carolina and Andrea (Stuart) Dalton-Lay of Milton, Georgia; three grandchildren: Jonathan (Josslyn Posey) Saddler, Maria Lay and Alexis Lay; two great-grandchildren, Zymire Saddler and ZaMiyah Patterson; four brothers: Johnny (Estella) Dalton of Harmony, North Carolina, Jimmy Lee (Audrey) Dalton of Hamptonville, North Carolina, Renard (Diane) Dalton of Statesville, North Carolina and William Lynn (Brenda) Dalton of Hamptonville, North Carolina; five sisters: Dorothy Mae Lackey and Sallie Ann Morrison, both of Statesville, North Carolina, Martha Jean Clement and Judy Williamson, both of Mocksville, North Carolina , Mary Frances (Rev.
