Robert DeVaughn Johnson, Sr., of Lexington, North Carolina, died on Friday, July 20, 2018 at Hinkle Hospice House.

Robert was born on September 22, 1933 in Lexington, North Carolina to John D. Johnson and Catherine Kirk. He was reared by his grandparents, Essie Dennis Johnson and Marion Johnson. He was educated in the Lexington City School system and graduated from Dunbar High School in 1951. He attended Howard University and Fayetteville State University.Robert was drafted into the United States Army and served in the Korean War.He was a deacon and active member of Freedom Tabernacle Family Worship Center.He retired from the United States Postal Service in 1992.

He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.

Robert leaves to cherish his loving memory, his devoted wife of 57 years, Lexie Jean Johnson of the home; three sons: Robert (Patrice) Berkley, Sr. of Woodbridge, Va., Robert (Roslyn) Johnson, Jr. of St. Louis, Missouri, John D. Johnson of Lexington; two daughters, Kathy (Clayton) Lanier of Winston-Salem, Kimberly (Phillip) Martin of Lexington; a loving mother-in-law, Ardenia Craddock of Lexington; a devoted brother-in-law, Dennis Ashe of Lexington; twelve grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and a host of cousins who affectionately call him, "Uncle Robert."

Funeral service will be Saturday at 2:00pm at Freedom Tabernacle Family Worship Center with family visitation at 1:30pm.Burial will be Monday at 2:00pm at Salisbury National Cemetery.

The family will be at the home of the daughter on Siouan Dr., Lexington, NC.
