Obituary

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Robert (Bob) Kelly, 71, of Greensboro, NC. Known to so many who loved him as "Kelly." He was born in Pasadena, CA and was the 2nd oldest of 11 children. Bob was preceded in death by his parents James and Jean Kelly and his beloved sister Eileen Kelly and many more loved ones. He is survived by his loving wife Wanda Faulkner Kelly of Greensboro, daughter Kristina Kelly Richardson and son-in-law Don Richardson of Charlotte, daughter Kathryn Kelly of Greensboro and granddaughters Lois and Lena Richardson and 4 sisters and 5 brothers on the West Coast.

Being a Vietnam veteran was one of the many unique and special attributes of Bob. He served tirelessly with the 2nd Surgical Hospital. This is where he met his beautiful wife of 51 years, Wanda Faulkner a 2LT nursing in Chu Lai. Bob retired from Alamance Regional Hospital after 25 + years in the ER, "snatching patients from the jaws of death," as he liked to say. Bob was a dedicated family man and loved spending time with his family. He often planned amazing family vacations that included National Parks, Lake Powell, Outer Banks, camping and yearly Oak Island trips. Bob was an avid outdoorsman: he started Kelly's Hunt Club where he enjoyed hunting, fishing, cooking and "winning" at poker with some of his lifelong best friends. These friends have said he was funny, kind, honest, selfless and simply a Great Man.

One of Bob's greatest joys and pride were his daughters; he loved being a father and reveled in spending time and having fun with his two granddaughters. Pops loved taking them to the trampoline park, riding the train, taking them on their first plane ride, teaching them to fish, how to stay warm and to "trust him because he was a nurse."

Bob will be missed by all who knew him and is remembered for his compassion, humor, loyalty, integrity and joy for life. At Bob's request there will be no funeral.
