Rodger Dennard Chaplin, 59, of 1624 Rockford Street, was born February 6, 1958, to the late Melvin Chaplin, Sr. and Dorothy Grier Chaplin in Forsyth County, NC.He transitioned from this life unexpectedly on July 6, 2017.
A memorial service will be held 3 p.m. Monday, July 17, 2017 at Roberts Funeral Service Chapel (Winston-Salem).
He received his formal education from the Winston-Salem Forsyth County School System and was a graduate of Parkland High School.He was a native of Winston-Salem, N.C. and was known as a cook at several local restaurants. He also served as one of the announcers on the WSSU radio station.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Melvin Chaplin, Sr. and Dorothy Grier Chaplin and a brother, Melvin Chaplin, Jr.
He leaves to morn a sister, Francina Chaplin Dobson; brother, Isaac O. Chaplin; adopted sister/niece Tomeka Chaplin; Isaiah Paige, who was raised by his parents; four nephews: Joseph Dobson, Jr., James Tyner, Christopher D. Burgess, Mel James; niece, Melvina James and a devoted aunt, Margie Rice; special members of the family, Lola Epps Edwards and Monta and a host of cousins, other relatives and friends.
The family will receive family and friends in Piedmont Circle at 1224 East 29th, Winston-Salem, NC 27105.
