Obituary

Reverend Dr. Ronald Bernard Shoaf of Greensboro, North Carolina was called to his heavenly home on Monday, October 19, 2015, following a brief illness.

The funeral service will be Saturday at 2:00pm at New Smith Grove Baptist Church with family visitation an hour before the service.

Public viewing will be Friday from 1:00pm -7:00pm at Roberts Funeral Service.

"Shoafie," as he was affectionately known was born on May 15, 1952, in Lexington, North Carolina to Willie and Erma Wilson Shoaf.He was educated in the Lexington City School system and graduated from Lexington Senior High School in 1970.He holds a B.S. degree in Business Management from Shaw University, Masters of Divinity from Hood Theological Seminary, Master of Art in Psychology with Specialization in General Psychology and Behavioral Health from Northcentral University, Doctor of Psychology from The Graduate Theological Foundation in Mishawaka, Indiana and Research Development Strategist Certification from Northcentral University.

Rev. Dr. Shoaf served honorably in the United States Air Force from March 9, 1973, to February 10, 1975.Spiritually, he accepted Christ at an early age and was an active member of New Smith Grove Baptist Church.He was ordained into the Gospel Ministry on September 10, 1981.In 2002, Rev. Dr. Shoaf was called to New Smith Grove Baptist Church as Senior Pastor.The church experienced growth and renovation in addition to debt free status prior to his retirement in December 2014.

He was a member of Banks Miller American Legion Post #255, American Association of Pastoral Counselors, Lexington Ministers Conference, the American Psychological Association and Davidson County Community Action Board Chairman.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his infant brother, Willie Carlton Shoaf.

He leaves to cherish his loving memory his devoted wife of 36 years, Barbara P. Shoaf of the home; two daughters, Marquia Shoaf of Greensboro and Charity (Kyle) Williams of Charlotte; a grandson, Micah F.C. Shoaf of Greensboro, who was the joy of his life; four aunts, Savannah (William) Adderton, Eleanor P. Wilson both of Lexington, Margaret Mitchell of Silver Spring, Maryland and Willie Jean Thomas of Valljo, California; two uncles, Dr. Harry Reynolds of Orland Park, Illinois and Theodore Crump of Lexington; two great aunts, Ollie Tuttle and Odalhia Thomas both of Midway and a host of loving in-laws, very special nieces, nephews, devoted cousins and friends.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Palliative Medicine Team at Moses Cone Hospital.
