Our dearly beloved sister, Rosa Marie Gaither Wright was called to eternal rest on Monday, June 16, 2025 while a patient at Meadowbrook Health in Salisbury, North Carolina.
Rosa was born on March 29, 1957 in Lexington, North Carolina to the late Bernice Jackson Barmore and the late Roosevelt Jackson. She was lovingly raised by her grandparents, Rosa Gaither and Thurler Gaither, also of Lexington.
At a young age, Rosa was introduced to her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and began her Christian journey as a member of Files Chapel Baptist Church in Lexington. She served on the Files Chapel Junior Choir and carried her love for singing with her throughout her life.
Rosa graduated from Lexington Senior High School in 1975. Soon after, she moved to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where she was employed with Ryder Truck Company for many years. Later, she relocated to Norcross, Georgia and became a devoted member of Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Dr. William L. Sheals. There she served faithfully on the choir, at the front desk and in the bookstore until her health began to decline.
Upon returning to Lexington, Rosa was restored to her home church, Files Chapel Baptist Church, where her spiritual journey began.
Rosa was known for her kind heart and infectious smile. Her big, beautiful eyes would light up any room, and she never met a stranger. Her warmth, generosity and joy left a lasting impression on everyone she met.
In addition to her parents and grandparents, Rosa was preceded in death by her three brothers: Leroy Barmore, James Barmore and Harold Jackson; and her uncles: Henry Jackson, Roger Jackson and Napoleon Jackson, all of Lexington.
Her kind demeanor, infectious smile and willingness to help others will forever be remembered by her two devoted sisters, Jeanette B. Smith and Barbara J. Ashe, both of Lexington; a loving foster son, Cordero Jackson of Winston-Salem, NC; two grandchildren, Gabrielle and Jahleel; a special aunt, Lillie Houston; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and countless friends who were blessed to know her.
A service honoring her life will be held on Sunday at 3:00 PM at Files Chapel Baptist Church, with family visitation beginning at 2:30 PM. Burial will follow at South Lexington City Cemetery.
