Mrs. Ruth Eller Edwards Holmes was born September 15, 1936 to Rev. Melton Edwards and Ollie Holt Edwards in Davidson County. A woman of grace and dignity, Mrs. Ruth entered eternal rest Saturday, July 8, 2023. We give thanks to Our Lord and Savior for the many years we shared her life. Gone from our home, but not from our hearts; her memory will forever be treasured.
Mrs. Holmes retired from Lexington Home Brands. She enjoyed spending time with her family and cooking. She was a member of New Zion Baptist Church and served on the kitchen committee, missionary circle, pastor's aide, senior choir and served as secretary of the Sunday School. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Leveall Holmes; a son, Melton Holmes; a daughter, Arleen Holmes; a brother, Melton Edwards and three sisters: Margaret Click, Gladys Henderson and Christine Edwards.
She leaves to cherish her memory three sons: Benjamin (Bessie) Holmes, Sr., Ricky (Carla) Holmes and Billy Holmes; three daughters: VonSherrill Holmes, Mary Pigott and Monique Holmes; 21 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren and a host of great-great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Homegoing service celebrating the life of Ruth E. Holmes will be Sunday at New Zion Baptist Church at 2:30pm with family visitation at 2:00pm. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Public viewing will be Saturday at Roberts Funeral Service from 1:00pm -5:00pm.
