Obituary

Mrs. Ruth Mae Cassell Pate was born on January 23, 1949 in Davidson County to the late Robert Cassell and Mildred Wagner Cassell. She peacefully passed away early Sunday morning, April 12, 2026.

Ruth Mae was a faithful member of Files Chapel Baptist Church, where she served diligently on the Senior Usher Board until her health began to decline and was a former member of the Pastor’s Aide Committee. She also found great joy in cooking and was especially known for her delicious red velvet cakes, which she lovingly shared with family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Georgianna Cassell; three grandchildren: SheDarrius Pate, Tacarro N. Scott and Derrick Rice; two great-grandchildren, Omarion Scott and D’marrius Gordon; five brothers: Robert, Joseph, Jack, Samuel and Roland Cassell; and seven sisters: Amanda Harrison, Bettie Jenkins, Bessie Melton, Inez Johnson, Sudie Louise Cassell, Frances Cassell and Reba Cassell.

She leaves to cherish her loving memories four daughters: Kathy Cassell Queen, Virginia (Edward) Mock, Sharon Pate and Barbara Pate; ten grandchildren; thirty-three great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Richard Cassell; one brother-in-law, William Harrison; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She also leaves behind a number of special friends—who know who they are—who brought joy and happiness to Ruth’s life over the years.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, April 25, 2026 at Files Chapel Baptist Church. Family visitation will begin at 1:30 p.m., followed by the Homegoing Service at 2:00 p.m. Burial will follow at South Lexington City Cemetery.
