Obituary

On a gorgeous winter day, the Courtney Family received a blessing with the birth of a beautiful daughter, Sallie M. Courtney Strong. Born February 10, 1955, Sallie was the daughter of George Millard Courtney, Sr. and Glera Gertrude Burt Courtney. Sallie had a heart of gold, warmed by sunshine, filled with love and happiness. Saturday, April 25, 2026, Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ called Sallie to her Eternal Home. Words cannot begin to express our profound loss, but we are filled with joy to have shared her life.

She was educated in Tallahassee, Alabama and graduated from Tallahassee High School, Tallahassee, Alabama in 1973. Sallie furthered her education at Troy State University School of Nursing in Montgomery, Alabama. She was last employed at Wake Forest University Baptist School of Medicine. She enjoyed cooking and gardening with her husband Johnny. She loved her grandchildren, especially having them sleepover.

At an early age, she accepted Christ as her Personal Savior. She was a devoted and dedicated member of Saint Francis of the Assisi Catholic Church, Mocksville, North Carolina. She loved Jesus and never wavered in her faith.

Sallie was married to the love of her life on October 11, 1975, her husband of 49 years, Johnny Mack Strong. They were devoted parents to their sons, Matthew and Christopher Strong.

Her parents, George and Glera; sister, Laura Carter and brother, George Courtney II preceded her in death.

Her legacy of love and devotion to family and friends will forever be treasured by her children, Matthew (Mary) Strong and Christopher (Cheryl) Strong; her four precious grandchildren: Abram, Cassandra, Henry and Charlotte; a brother, Edward (Connie Clark) Courtney of California; brother-in-law, Calvin Carter of Mocksville, North Carolina; two nieces, Celeste Michelle Carter Beacham and Laura Susan Copeland; and a host of cousins and friends.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 12:00 PM on Friday, May 8, 2026 at Saint Francis of Assissi Catholic Church in Mocksville, North Carolina with Rev. Father Eric L. Kowalski officiating with a 30 minute visitation prior to service time. Burial in Rose Cemetery will follow.
