Obituary

Samuel Alphonzo Williams was born July 10, 1947 in Columbia, South Carolina to the late Bishop Samuel & Jane Williams, Sr. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Essie Williams; a brother, Timothy Williams; and two sisters, Janet Ware and Hattie Williams.

Samuel departed this life Wednesday, February 1, 2023 at W.G. (Bill) Hefner VA Medical Center, Salisbury, North Carolina.

While at home, he was active in Father's Church (Church of God).


After graduation, Sam was drafted into the US Army on December 9, 1966. He continued his education by studying law during his military time. He was then deployed to Vietnam where he served in "Special Forces" (Sharpe Shooter). This tour of duty caused many health problems. He had a family who loved and prayed for him during this time.


He leaves to cherish his memories, a daughter, Merdikae Williams; a brother, Ralph D. Williams of Columbia, South Carolina; three sisters: Rudene McCoy of Hutchinson, Kansas, Jean (Ted) Wright of Goose Creek, South Carolina and Betty Williams Craig of Lexington, North Carolina; a sister-in-law, Lyn Williams James; eleven nieces: Raquel Clyburn, Charletta Henry, Adria Trotter, Teresa Grayson, Chandra' Williams, Michelle Williams, Christy Williams, Roselyn Wright, Jane' Scott, Kiara Sease and Nicole Williams; nine nephews: Melvin McCoy, Matthew Williams, Tony Williams, Tim Williams, Kelvin Williams, Vince Williams, Thomas Wright, Jamie Ware and Marcus James; and a host of cousins and friends.
