Saundra Evella Hill Scales, 72, of Winston-Salem, NC, passed away surrounded by loved ones on March 13th, 2024 after a 4 year battle with pancreatic cancer.
Saundra, affectionately known as "Tinkie", was born on June 18, 1951 to Annie Mae Williams and Emerson Hill. She attended Winston-Salem, Forsyth County Schools and graduated from Carver High School in 1969.
After graduating from high school, she attended Forsyth Technical Community College where she received an Associate's Degree in Early Childhood Development along with multiple certifications. This kicked off a 38 year stint working for Northwest Child Development as a teacher, assistant director, and director of multiple childcare centers.
Saundra was a woman of Christ and was a dedicated and faithful member of Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church until her health began to fail. She was a devoted and loving mother who taught her daughters to read the Bible and follow God's teachings.
Saundra was a kind, caring, and giving person who always put the needs of her family before her own. She was a strong woman who faced every challenge in her life with courage and dignity. She was a source of inspiration to us all and she will be deeply missed by everyone whose lives she touched. Saundra was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Beatrice Ann Bridges; a brother, Clarence Henry Shell; two daughters, Tarror Demetrius Scales and Tiffany Layetta Scales; a nephew, Anthony Eugene Hill; two grandsons, Anthony Lamont Scales and CeQuan Lenard Scales, all of Winston-Salem, NC.
Left to cherish her memories are one daughter, Tekia Shanee' Scales and her father Calvin Eugene Blyther; one sister, Retha Mae Blyther; five granddaughters, LaQuanda Nicole Scales, DeJara Lanada Scales, Abrea Cherub Lucky, E'Lisha Amaya Harris and Ava Rose Harris; one grandson, Erin Joseph Scales; two great-grandsons, Cashton Ali Scales and Richton Billionaire CeQuan Scales; five nieces, Trina Hill, Cedrika Nikita Blyther, Nedra Danete Hill, Nia Nico Bridges and Na'Tia Nicole Bridges; two nephews, Clarence Hill, Jr. and Terrance Hill. She also leaves to cherish her memories, a host of other family members and friends too numerous to name.
Her life will be celebrated on Saturday, March 23, 2024 at Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church at 11:30 A.M. with family visitation at 11:00 A.M. prior to the service. Interment will follow at Mt. Gur Cemetery in Kernersville, North Carolina. Public viewing will be held on Friday, March 22, 2024 from 4:00 P.M. - 7:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
