Sherman Desi Arnold's journey began on October 5, 1955, in Davie County, North Carolina. He was the beloved son of the late Jeremiah "Jake" Arnold and Annie Beatrice Foster Arnold. On the afternoon of Tuesday, October 21, 2025, Desi peacefully transitioned from this life and went home to be with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Though this is a most difficult time for our family, we give thanks for the years we were blessed to share with Desi and for the love and joy he brought to so many.



Affectionately known as "Big Money Grip" or simply "Grip," Desi was educated in the Davie County public schools and graduated from Davie High School in Mocksville, North Carolina, with the Class of 1974. He was formerly employed as a tractor-trailer driver for Salem Leasing.



Desi was an avid sportsman who found joy on the golf course any day of the week. He also loved watching drag racing and playing softball. Over the years, he dedicated his time to officiating and mentoring on courts and fields across the community, always eager to share his knowledge, encouragement, and laughter. Known for his generous heart, he never hesitated to lend a helping hand, offer wise counsel, or simply be there to listen when someone needed a friend.


In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Desiree Arnold; a brother, Gary "Bookie" Arnold, a granddaughter, Shalexus Grier and his longtime partner and best friend, Vickie Neal.


A life filled with warmth and loving memories will forever be treasured by his family and friends. Those who survive are a daughter, Catherine R. (Edmund Herdrick, Sr) Neely of Concord, North Carolina; two sons, Richard S. (Gail Robinson) Neely of Charlotte, North Carolina and Sherman "Nick" (Kristin) Arnold of Mocksville, North Carolina; fourteen grandchildren: Shaneka Grier, Shantell Grier, Daryl Grier, Jr., Shakirya Grier, Cameron Grier, Queneasha Pinckney, Jasmyn Neely, Richard Neely, Jr., Janee Robinson, Shanya Taylor, Chenel Robinson, Madison Robinson, Braylon C. Arnold and Bodhi C. Arnold; eight great-grandchildren; two sisters, Kathie T. Foster of Mocksville, North Carolina and Stacey R. Ashton of Midland, North Carolina; leaves behind his loyal canine companion, Charlie Brown, who was always by his side and brought him great comfort and joy; nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends who will miss him deeply.

The family extends their heartfelt appreciation to the staff of Mountain Valley - SECU Hospice Care Center for their compassion, care, and love during Desi's final days.


The Memorial Service honoring the life of Mr. Sherman Desi "Big Money Grip" Arnold will be held on Wednesday, October 29, 2025 at 1:00 PM, Roberts Funeral Service Chapel with a 30 minute visitation prior to service time. The family will receive friends on Sunday, October 26, 2025 from 2:00 PM- 4:00 PM at his residence, 141 Foster Dairy Drive, Mocksville, NC 27028; Monday, October 27th and Tuesday, October 28th, 2025 from 4:00 PM-7:00 PM.


The family is asking all those planning to attend the service to please come dress in casual attire.
