In sweet peace, on the morning of Saturday, February 28, 2026 our beloved, Shirley Ann Broughton Peoples gave up time for eternal rest and journeyed home to be with Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Our family and friends are most saddened as we say goodbye to a woman of God, a woman of Faith, whom we loved dearly. We are grateful for the many years we shared her life.
Shirley was born June 26, 1950 in Palestine, Texas and was the daughter of Brother Alvester Broughton, Sr. and Eddie Mae Evans Broughton.
She attended the Woodson High School in Abilene, Tx and Dunbar High School in Ft. Worth, Tx, graduating from Dunbar High School and attended Southwestern Christian College in Terrell, Tx. Shirley worked as a copying clerk with Josten Publishers prior to her retirement. Shirley was a faithful and active member of Capernaum Church of Christ, Clemmons, North Carolina. She was a member of the Women's Community Ministry. She was a greeter at the beginning and end of services. Shirley was a committed member of the Kitchen Committee and Part of the Dorcas Ministry/Bereavement/Sick Committee. She also had responsibilities for sending out Get Well/ Encouragement/ Sympathy cards. Shirley and her best girlfriends, Mickey, Alice Faye and Irene enjoyed going out to eat and catching up. Other hobbies included: sewing, reading, baking, taking long walks, always being there to support all the kids' sports endeavors and of course, "going out to eat."
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her 4 brothers, Alvester Broughton Jr. of Altus, OK, Steve Allen Broughton of Barstow, CA, Donald Ray Broughton and Gordon Eugene Jones of Fort Worth, Tx.
Shirley's legacy of love, devotion to family and friends and her sweet spirit will live in the hearts of those who survive. They are her husband of 47 years, Rodgers Peoples of the home; a son, Corey (Joy Kelley-Smith) Peoples of Walkertown, North Carolina; daughter, Tiffany (Troy Taylor) Peoples of Greensboro, North Carolina; three sisters: Brenda Brown, Linda Broughton and Eddie Bates, all of Ft. Worth, Texas; five grandchildren: Maddox Tyree, Kylan (Zoey) Peoples, Aaliyah Peoples, Avianna Harrington and Jidenna-Cole Peoples; a brother-in-law, Wilburd (Joyce) Peoples; three best friends: Mickey Sturdivant, Alice Faye Blackwell Green and Irene Sturdivant, and a host of beloved nieces and nephews.
