Shirley Ann White Gray, age 67, entered Eternal rest Thursday, October 21, 2021 while a patient at Novant Health Rowan Medical Center, Salisbury, North Carolina. Born July 27, 1954 in Davie County, North Carolina, Shirley was the daughter of the late Jessie Lee "Chuck" White and Stella Irene Payne. We give thanks to Our Almighty Lord and Savior for sharing His daughter with us. We will be forever grateful for the many family and friends who have shown their love and helped to make her transition a little more comforting.
"Cheryl the Pearl," as she was affectionately known, was educated in the public schools of Davie County. Shirley was a certified nursing assistant for many years with the Cap Services. She was a "good southern country lady." She was a member of the Refuge Community Church, Cooleemee, North Carolina. Some of her favorite pastimes were listening to blues, playing her sweepstakes and just riding around seeing the world.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents; son, Kerry Gray; and two sisters, Geraldine Cuthbertson and Brenda Williams.
She is survived by her sons, Curtis L. Gray, Sr., Lexington, North Carolina and Terry Gray, Sr., of the home; daughters, Sherry Gray, Salisbury, North Carolina and Melissa Gray of the home; eleven grandchildren: Sa'Tonia, Raekwon, Curtis, Jr., Kyerra, Taraji, La'Stella, Camay, Starla, Sha'heem, Kaneisha and Terry, Jr.; four great-grandchildren: Serenity, Freddie, Rashod and JT; two brothers, Robert White, Spartanburg, South Carolina and Michael (Selvia) White, Lexington, North Carolina; eight sisters: Janice Davis, Vivian (Warren) Richardson and Darlene White, all of High Point, North Carolina, Ernestine Harding, Frances (Perry) James and Charlene Smith, all of Mocksville, North Carolina, Marilyn (Johnny) Rice and Harriett White, both of Cooleemee, North Carolina; brother-in-law, William Cuthbertson, Cleveland, North Carolina; a special friend, Thomasina Stevens; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
The funeral service will be on Friday, October 29, 2021 at 2:00 pm at Victory Baptist Church, Cooleemee with family visitation at 1:00 pm. Public viewing will be Thursday from 1-6 pm at Roberts Chapel.
