"I come to the garden alone, While the dew is still on the roses; And the voice I hear, falling on my ear, The Son of God discloses."
Ms. Teresa Ann Barksdale Clowney, 70, departed this life on Thursday, October 13, 2022 surrounded by family at Trellis Supportive Care Facility. She was born August 16, 1952 in Winston-Salem, North Carolina to the late Deacon Johnny Lee and Elder Bertha Barksdale. Teresa, along with her siblings, grew up in the Happy Hill Garden Community and was educated in the Winston-Salem Forsyth County School System. She retired as a chef, a career in which she worked diligently for much of her life.
Preceding her in death were her parents, Deacon and Elder Barksdale; her only brother, Jerry Lee Hairston, Sr.; her nephew, whom she loved and cared for as if he were her own son, Dedrick Denard Thomas and her beloved sister, best friend, as well as First Lady, Missionary Rachel White Beal.
Teresa was a devoted and faithful member of Greater St. Luke Apostolic Church Inc. for nearly 20 years and was recently installed as a church mother on Sunday, October 2, 2022, the same day on which she gave her last testimony of having the Bible plan of salvation; repenting of her sins, being baptized in the name of Jesus Christ and being filled with the precious gift of the Holy Ghost. During her time at Greater St. Luke, she was one of the original members, the original drummer, served as the Usher Board President, a member of the Pastor's Aide Committee, the Assistant Sunday School Secretary, part of the Hospitality/Helps Committee and was the Kitchen Superintendent.
Teresa leaves to cherish her memories two daughters, Missionary Ayenna Clowney and Sister Avis Clowney, both of the home; three sisters: Pastor Loretta Bailey of Port St. Lucie, FL, Elder Johnnie Mae Barksdale of Winston-Salem, NC and Elder Tonie (Mike) Lanphere of Anniston, AL and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and her Greater St. Luke Church family.
Take your rest in the bosom of Jesus, Mama; we are going to be alright.
Death leaves a heartache no one can heal. Love leaves a memory no one can steal.
