Obituary

Valerie Gail Hash, age 48, of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, passed away on December 20th, 2025 at Novant Health Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem.

Valerie was born in Roanoke, Virginia to Evelyn Stewart (Harris) and Donald Stewart. She dedicated much of her early professional life as a dental assistant in Roanoke, a role she took great pride in. Above all else, Valerie was a devoted and loving mother, a calling that guided much of her life.

In later years, Valerie selflessly became the full-time caretaker for her father, serving him with unwavering love and commitment until his passing. Following this profound chapter, Valerie turned her compassion outward, becoming a social rights advocate for the community known as JUSTICE, where she proudly served as their National Secretary. Her advocacy work reflected her deep faith, integrity and belief in dignity for all people.

Valerie was also a breast cancer survivor, facing her journey with remarkable courage, grace and unwavering faith-qualities that defined every chapter of her life.

She was known for her warmth, enthusiasm, resilience and faith-driven spirit. She loved collecting fragrances and jewelry, cherished time spent loving on her grandchildren and found joy in deeply connecting with others. Her greatest gift-her true superpower-was her ability to make people feel seen, heard and genuinely loved. She was the rock of her family, a source of strength, comfort and unconditional support.

Valerie is survived by her three children: Sariah Hash, Tanner Hash and Olivia Hash; her grandchildren: Kingdom, Preston and Novah; her mother, Evelyn Stewart (Harris); her two brothers, Donald "Shea" Stewart and Sherwin Stewart; and her life partner, Erroll Hash.

She was preceded in death by her father, Donald Stewart.

A celebration of Valerie's life will be held on Tuesday, December 30th at 11:00 a.m. at Roberts Funeral Service Chapel (Winston-Salem, North Carolina). Livestreaming will be available via Youtube: Roberts Funeral Service Winston Salem
