Mr. Vernell McGregor, son of the late Harvey Lee and Mable McGregor, was born August 6, 1943, in Raeford, NC.He departed this earthly life in his wife's loving arms on October 6, 2017, to continue his services with the Lord. He was a member of the Church of Christ at Eastside.

Vernell never met a stranger. He was kind and compassionate to every person he met and had the most forgiving heart of anyone you would ever know. He welcomed everyone in his home, loved to have fun and made sure his wife fixed them a good meal. Vernell was known by his friends and family as Money-Mac, Vern or Pup, but Honey by his dear wife.Everyone was pleasantly entertained by his humor. You knew exactly how to answer when he asked, "How is your carburetor percolating with your generator." You'd better answer with, "My regulator is sticking."

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving daughter Jewel McGregor, three sisters and two brothers.

Vernell leaves to cherish the legacy of his love to his wife Jennette McGregor; children, Scarlett Gailes (Joseph),Velvet McGregor and his dedicated god-daughter Heather Ascott-King all of Winston-Salem, NC; his siblings: Thedora Sanders (Charlie), Mernell McGregor, Tina McGregor, James McGregor (Gloria) all of Raeford, NC and Robert McGregor of FL; four grandchildren: Joseph M Gailes, DeJuan Gailes (Jessica), Brandon Gailes, Daniel Jenkins (Kelsey) and one great-granddaughter, Cheyenne Gailes; his sisters-in-law,Barbara Abbott (Bobby) and Constance Russell; and ahost of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends, including devoted friends: Alphonza and Gloria Moore, Tony and Ann Richardson, Gary and Mary Puryear, Melvin and Audrey Davis, Ricky and Bonnie Cooper, Tony Love and Allen Coleman. A special thanks to Alfred Halliday and Rick Cooper who were instrumental in Vernell rededicating his life to Christ.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00pm on Thursday, October 12, 2017, at Eastside Church of Christ, 536 Barbara Jane Avenue, Winston-Salem, NC 27101. The family will receive friends from 12:00-1:00 at the church. The Act of Interment and Committal will follow in Evergreen Cemetery.Public viewing will be Wednesday, October 11, 2017 1:00 P.M. – 7:00 P.M.
