Viola A. Burgess, affectionately known as "Sally" by her family, was a caring mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She peacefully transitioned from this life on October 16, 2024, at the age of 80. Viola was born on October 15, 1944, in Washington, Georgia, to the late Bennie L. Anderson and E.T. Anderson.
Viola attended Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools and retired from Lexington Furniture in 2006. Following her retirement, she continued to serve her community, working with the Lexington City School System and Walmart. A devoted member of Salem Baptist Church, she faithfully served on the usher board.
Viola cherished her family and her church community, always bringing joy and laughter with her naturally humorous personality. She had a love for music, dancing, and spending quality time with her loved ones.
In addition to her parents, Viola was preceded in death by her brother Willie Lawrence Anderson, her sister Betty Ann Jackson, her daughter Regina Y. Blakely Crump, and her son Billy Joe Blakely Jr.
She leaves to cherish her memory a son, David Blakely of Lexington, NC; a daughter, La Tanya (Jajuan) McCoy of Winston-Salem, NC; three sisters, Mildred Waiters, Bobbie Sue (Michael) Walker, and Peggy (Ben) Ardrey, all of Charlotte, NC; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, loved ones, and friends.
The homegoing service will be held on Friday, October 25, 2024, at 12:30 p.m. at Salem Baptist Church, with family visitation beginning at 12:00 p.m. Burial will follow at South Lexington City Cemetery.
