Born on October 24, 1936 in Davidson County, Virginia Sue Holt Woodberry, affectionately known as "Sue," passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 1, 2025 at Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Lexington Medical Center. She was the beloved daughter of the late John Clifford Holt and Laura Lindsay Holt.
Sue retired after many dedicated years as a custodian in the Billings Freight. A member of Smith Grove View Baptist Church, she served diligently on the kitchen committee and brought her vibrant energy to every gathering while she was able.
Sue, alongside her cherished sisters, was lovingly referred to as one of the "Golden Girls," a testament to their inseparable bond and the joy they brought to others. Known as the life of the party, Sue had a unique ability to light up any room with her presence, laughter and warmth. To her grandchildren and their friends, she was lovingly known as "Granny Sue," a name that perfectly captured her caring, fun-loving and welcoming spirit. Her nephews and nieces adored her and lovingly called her "Auntie" or "Ms. Berry," a name that reflected their deep love and admiration.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Will Woodberry; her four sons: Byron Holt, Woody Woodberry, Reginald Woodberry and Keith Woodberry; and her five siblings: Mary Ann Holt, Charles Holt, Josephine H. Gaddy, Garland Holt and Sylvester Holt.
She leaves to cherish her memory her three children: Gwendolyn Holt, Charles (Sylvia) Woodberry and Adrian (Nichol) Woodberry; 12 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren. Sue is also survived by her beloved siblings: Ruth H. Small, Roy (Pat) Holt, Sylvia H. (Timothy) Hargrave and Elnora H. Nance; three sisters-in-law: Allie Mae Holt, Katherine W. Hoover and Clarissa Woodberry; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
"Ms. Berry's" legacy of love, resilience and joy will forever remain in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing her.
The funeral service will be held on Sunday, January 5, 2025 at 2:30 PM at First Baptist Church, Village Dr., with family visitation at 2:00 PM. Burial will follow at Smith Grove View Baptist Church Cemetery. A public viewing will take place on Saturday, January 4, 2025 from 3:30 PM to 6:00 PM at Roberts Funeral Service.
