William Taft "Dad" Adderton, Jr., of Wafford Road, Lexington, NC, was born in Hillsborough, NC (Orange County) on August 23, 1943 to William H. Taft and Sue Mae Young Adderton. William was called to his eternal home on Wednesday, February 8, 2023 at Hospice of Davidson County.
Willliam received his primary education at Southmont school in Davidson County and secondary education at Dunbar High School in Lexington. He attended barber school in Winston-Salem, NC. He was a barber for many years and also owned a small café and community store. He served in the Army National Guard for eight years. William was a member of Southmont First Baptist Church, having joined at an early age. He later joined Chestnut Grove Methodist Church under Watchcare after his marriage to Savannah Shoaf on December 22, 1972. He served as a church Steward and Trustee for many years. He was a past member of Acacia Lodge 66. Over several years he worked with three family reunions: the Adderton-Miller-Hargrave Reunion, the Crump-Fitzgerald-Shoaf Reunion and the Thomas-Eller-Tuttle-Young Reunion. He loved his family, friends, God and life.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Margaret Adderton McNeely (James, Sr.).
He leaves the legacy of his love to his wife, Savannah Shoaf Adderton of the home; daughter, Yvette (John "Woody") Neely of Winston-Salem, NC; son, Brad Alexander Adderton (April) of the home; brother, James "Jimmy" Adderton (Jackie) of Southmont, NC; sisters: Agnas Tyler of Southmont, NC, Arnetta (Michael) Smith of Southmont, NC, Evelyn Key (Rev. Leon Sr.) of Fayetteville, NC; five grandchildren: Morie B. Neely and Stormi Neely both of Winston-Salem, NC, Alonzo Alexander Adderton, DeMarco William Adderton, and Josiah Kortez Adderton all of the home; devoted nephew, Corey Smith; and a host of other nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.
