William Chester Carter, age 77, gave up time for Eternity on Tuesday, October 14, 2025 while a patient at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Born July 10, 1948 in Bronx, New York, William was the son of the late William McKinley Carter and Marie Chase- Carter. Words fail to express how deeply we will miss William, but we are grateful for the many years we were able to share his life.
He attended the Davie County public schools and graduated from Davie High School in Mocksville, North Carolina. William retired from Ohio State University before moving to Mocksville, North Carolina. After relocating to Mocksville, retirement could not hold him back from being there for our youth by joining the educators of William R. Davie Elementary School. Working for Davie County school system for 10 years, William retired, but quickly went back to work for Yveddi Transportation working there until his health begin to fail.
William was a member of St. John A.M.E. Zion Church in Mocksville, North Carolina. A member of the DC Cruisers, William enjoyed jazz music, cars and watching sports, especially his beloved Ohio State Buckeyes, LA Lakers and the Detroit Pistons.
As we say good-bye to William, know that he will forever remain in the hearts of his beloved wife of 48 years, Pamela Hill Carter of the home; two sons, Brian Carter of Columbus, Ohio and Curtis Carter of Huntersville, North Carolina; daughter, Nakia C. Carter of Charlotte, North Carolina; sister, Denise (Warren) Bennett of Winston-Salem, North Carolina; sister-in-law, Shelly Hill, of Columbus, Ohio; best friend, Elton Foote of Charlotte, North Carolina; and a host of nephews, cousins and friends.
