Deacon Winfred Hines, Sr., age 88, departed this life on that morning train to Glory on Monday, May 9, 2022 at Novant Health Thomasville Medical Center.
He was born June 15, 1933 in Randolph County to Eloise Cotton Hines and Clemmons Birkhead. He was educated in Randolph County Schools. At a young age he moved to Southmont and met and married the love of his life, Fannie Louise Smith. They had been married 65 years at the time of her death in June 2019.
He loved buying and working on old cars and going to auctions and flea markets with his son and best friend Winfred "Butch" Jr. who preceded him in death in September 2013. He was a longtime member of Living Water Baptist Church, High Point, NC where he served on the Deacon Ministry. Once his health declined making it difficult to commute, he joined Southmont First Baptist Church to be with his wife and closer to home.
Deacon Hines was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; son; two grandsons, Emanual Hargrave and Tavis Hines; grandmother, Sally Long Cotton; an aunt, Ruby Cotton Watson; two uncles, Leroy Cotton and Dewy Steed and a very close cousin who was raised as a brother, Willie Cotton.
Mr. Winfred leaves to cherish his memory, two daughters, Deborah Hines-Flake and Diane Hines Cheek (Alfred) of Lexington; a son, Alvin Davis of Virginia; 15 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Shirley Greene of Asheboro and Kathy (Ronnie) Beamon of Charlotte; a brother, Clarence (Cathy) Birkhead of Hillsborough, NC ; bonus mother, Thelma Birkhead of Charlotte and a host of nieces, nephews, other family and friends.
The funeral service will be Saturday at Living Water Baptist Church at 12:30pm with family visitation at Noon. Burial will follow at Southmont First Baptist Church. Public viewing will be Friday from 1-6pm at Roberts Funeral Service.
